OUR DESIGN APPROACH

Understanding your project’s needs is the foundation for our design approach. Every engineering design is a unique balance of first costs, comfort, and operational costs, and requires an engineer who asks the right questions.

Instead of being “married” to one or two particular types of HVAC system, we have a wide range of experience with many system types that enables us to better provide an objective recommendation for your project.

Our design approach typically includes:

Sample+Mechanical+Plans.jpg
  1. Carefully develop the project scope and define goals with the client.

  2. Develop detailed and accurate load calculations.

  3. Recommend system type. For more complex buildings, we may provide several options, as well as more detailed analysis, such as energy modeling, life cycle cost analysis, or daylighting analysis. We believe a well-informed client can make the best decision for his or her building.

  4. Develop design documents, with periodic input from the owner and other stakeholders.

  5. Provide quality assurance reviews throughout the process to minimize potential for problems and better coordinate with other disciplines.

  6. Provide assistance to the owner during construction as needed (construction contract administration, or “C.A”). This may include but is not limited to procurement, submittal reviews, field services, dispute resolution, responding to Requests for Information, and closeout.

In addition, we tailor our services for each particular project as well as the procurement method. For example, a multifamily design-build project may require a different level of design detail than a design-bid-build university laboratory project. This helps ensure that our fees are stay competitive while ensuring that your needs are adequately met.
